Christy Johnson of United Goods has a diverse background that includes training and experience in graphic design, illustration, photography, and writing. She spent several years working as a graphic designer for a couple of non-profits, and then went solo to create branding and custom wedding and event stationery for diverse clients. Christy still does a this kind of work under the brand redshoes26 (website coming soon). But for the past seven years she's focused her efforts on what she's most passionate about: She calls on her love of both graphic design and drawing to create digital illustrations in handmade frames that she calls State Icons.
State Icon illustrations celebrate the everyday. The landmarks, structures, and buildings Christy draws might not be known throughout the world, but they often mean a lot to people for different reasons. The illustrations can be reminders of a favorite place, memorials to an important person or date, or celebrations of the places we call home—both past and present.
Christy takes great care in choosing the materials she and her team works with, and, unless noted, all items are made entirely in the USA.
Christy has shown her work at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, AZ Gallery, Altered Esthetics, The FrameWorks, Flow Art Space, New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, Twin Cities Pride, Paper Hat, J.A. Geiger Studio, Roe Wolfe, Jungle Red Salon, and Foiled Again Salon. Her work can be found in more than 20 shops and galleries in Minnesota, California, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Texas.
Christy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications (Photojournalism emphasis) from St. Cloud State University, and an Associate of Arts degree in Graphic Design from The Art Institutes International Minnesota. She grew up in North St. Paul, Minnesota, and resides in Minneapolis.
